Kevin Durant May Sign With Roc Nation Sports

NBA star Kevin Durant is looking forward to signing with Jay-Z’s brand new management group, Roc Nation Sports. The details of the possible deal have not been specified yet but sources say that: “KD doesn’t want a traditional NBA agent anymore,” a league source with knowledge of his thinking told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night. “He wants Jay-Z to handle his branding. …He had a chance to be with his idol and couldn’t say no.”

Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports agency only launched in April. In barely two short months it has recruited the No. 3 WNBA draft pick Skylar Diggins, and Yankees All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano. Sure, there have been hiccups along the way, but in less then two months it's obvious Hov is building himself a top tier of players, especially with Kevin Durant now being thrown into the mix.

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant cut ties this week with his agent Rob Pelinka and his Landmark Sports Agency, which also rep Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant. According to several reports Durant, who finished the regular NBA season with the highest free throw percentage (.905) in the league, is looking to sign with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports. He would be the first male basketball player to sign with the sports agency, but there's a minor catch: Jay-Z must get rid of his stake in the Brooklyn Nets first.

Insiders say that Durant doesn't have to sign with Roc Nation Sports just yet. In 2010, the 24-year-old extended his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder for $85 million to play through the 2015-16 season. Rather, Durant is looking for a branding deal that would get his jersey, number and name out to masses more like a neo-Michael Jordan or Bryant. (He already has deals with major brands like Nike, Sprint and Gatorade.) In that case, there's a possibility Roc Nation Sports could ink a deal with Durant around Jay-Z's Brooklyn Nets problems. Let's just hope he keeps the news off Instagram.
